Live In Jesus
By: Danny Wallace
We received Jesus by His sacrifice; now live Him. We’re already deeply rooted in Him by His decision, not ours. We’re well constructed upon Him by His sacrifice, not our obedience. We’ve heard all there is to tell about the faith. Now we should do what we’ve been taught. School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it! Let your living spill over into a live of gratefulness and thanksgiving.
Watch out for people who try to dazzle you with big words and intellectual double-talk. All they want to do is drag you off into endless arguments that never amount to anything. They spread their ideas through the empty traditions of human beings and the empty superstitions of spirit beings, but that’s not the way of Christ.
Everything of God is expressed in Jesus, so we can see and hear Him clearly. We don’t need a telescope, a microscope, or a horoscope to realize the fullness of Jesus Christ, and the emptiness of the universe without Him. When we cuddle in the embrace of Jesus, that fullness comes together for us, too. His power extends over everything in the universe.
Entering into this “fullness” is not something we figure out or achieve. It’s not a matter of being circumcised or keeping a long list of religious laws. No, we’re already in—insiders—not through some secretive initiation rite, but rather through what Jesus has already gone through for us, destroying the power of sin for the entire world.
If it’s an initiation ritual we’re after, we’ve already been through it by submitting to baptism. God brought us alive—right along with Christ! Think of it! All sin is forgiven, the slate is wiped clean, and that old arrest warrant is forever canceled and nailed to Christ’s cross. Jesus stripped all the spiritual tyrants in the universe of their sham authority at the Cross and marched them naked through the streets as living testimony to their true authority.
So don’t put up with anyone pressuring you about what you chose to eat, where you chose to worship, or burden you with rhetoric about holy days. All those things are mere shadows cast before what was to come; the real substance is Jesus Christ.
Don’t tolerate religious people who try to run your life, ordering you to bow and scrape, insisting that you join their obsession with angels, telling you to seek out visions. They’re a lot of hot air, that’s all they are. They are completely out of touch with the source of life, Jesus Christ, who mended us together in one piece. His very breath and blood flow through us. He is the Head and we are the body. We can grow up healthy in God only as He nourishes us.
If with Jesus we’ve put all that pretentious and infantile religion behind us, why do we let ourselves be bullied by it? “Don’t touch this! Don’t taste that! Don’t go near this!” Do we think things that are here today and gone tomorrow are worth that kind of attention? Such things sound impressive if said in a deep enough voice. They even give the illusion of being pious and humble and ascetic, but they’re just another way of showing off and making ourselves look important.
Live in the freedom to which you hold no credit. Live in Jesus.
